The Technical & Solution Architecture Lead will be responsible for the team in charge of implementing and operating the Continuous Delivery Pipeline for IT Change within Bank of Ireland Group. This means introducing and operating a series of automation and tooling facilities, streamlining the current manual approach, covering the full IT Change software lifecycle (automated configuration, automated versioning, automated testing and automated deployment of the Banks Applications.)

The Continuous Integration team will consist of approximatively 30 people, which will be a mix of Bank specialist and third party vendors who will have overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining the solutions.

The Technical & Solution Architecture Lead will liaise with the different development teams within the Bank, ensuring they can effectively use the designed solution to automate the development. They will also work closely with the production team to ensure they use it to deploy and operate applications as and when required.

In addition, they must have a strong understanding of enterprise architecture and project delivery, with experience in delivering projects of similar scale and nature to the ones they will be reviewing. They will be familiar with key architecture principles and approaches, including current trends regarding security, deliverability and regulation.

The Technical & Solution Architecture Lead will liaise with vendors as well asinternal teams, reviewing solution designs and delivery approach, then providing sponsors and stakeholders with an independent view on the quality of the solutions and the risks associated with them.

The Bank uses both Agile and Waterfall methodologies for development, an understanding of both worlds and how to adequately approach solution delivery in each is required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initially to design the business case and implementation plan for Continuous Integration and following that it`s maintenance and ongoing development
  • Implement the transformation by consolidating current diverse development realities of the Bank of Ireland Group and make sure the tooling approach is coherent
  • Initially, take a Lead role on the identification and recruitment followed by ongoing development of the Continuous Integration Team
  • Implement a model based on services used by different applications which is user friendly and easily adaptable
  • Ensure the business case for automation is met
  • Lead the team in operating as an independent team, measuring productivity of the delivered solutions and encouraging people to automate the development

Leadership & People Management:

  • Guide and direct resources in the delivery of work as appropriate to a level of 30 people, mixing contract management and internal management appropriately
  • Embed good People Management practices in line with Group standards, including completion of goals and reviews for direct reports
  • Support, coach and manage Team performance, recognising and utilising individual strengths to achieve optimum benefit for the team
  • Provide support for Learning and Development for individuals for the benefit of the overall unit

Risk & Compliance:

  • Maintain and monitor standards, controls, processes and solutions to minimise Business and IT risk especially on delivery of production solutions
  • Ensure full compliance with all Group, Legal and Regulatory requirements and standards

Essential Qualifications:

  • 3rd level degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent expereince.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • In-depth experience in an Agile Development and automation of IT software life cycle solutions environment, preferably in financial services
