Stories from Professional and Support Services

Kevin Daly

Recruitment Consultant, Group HR

What does a day in Bank of Ireland look like?

Typically, the role of a Recruitment Consultant is to understand the business area you recruit for. I spend a lot of time meeting hiring managers and Human Resources to understand the needs of the business and the details of the roles I am recruiting for. When I am in the office, it is all about finding the right people to fill these roles. This involves anything from writing engaging job specifications, attending careers fairs and networking events, to searching for candidates and reaching out to them online through more and more innovative methods. I am also regularly involved in some great HR projects that really demonstrate the amazing changes the group is going through, and an exciting digital future for customers and staff.

What's the best thing about your job?

From my point of view it is between the projects and my team. I work with great colleagues and management who genuinely want to help you succeed. The projects I work on have given me some amazing experience, and have allowed my voice to be heard by stakeholders at all levels in the group. People really do listen!

What challenges you in your job?

Finding a balance can be challenging. Every role I recruit for is the most important role I am working on right now, and every business area needs to receive the best service. Finding the balance and getting those priorities right can be tough, but it's very rewarding when you get to offer someone a new career, and fill a vacant role for the business.

What gets you up in the morning?

About three alarms! Really though, it's all about learning something new for me. The work is challenging at times, but you're always learning.
