The primary high level objectives of the role are:

  • People Leadership. Providing high impact motivational leadership to the FS team, holding people to account to Drive Group Performance in support of our Finance Priorities/Ambition. To ensure the appropriate structures/ processes are in place to develop a high performing leadership team and to attract, retain and develop talent, providing a succession pipeline for the future.
  • Operational Delivery - ensuring the FS team safely delivers, to a high standard, key regular and ad hoc deliverables including statutory reporting, regulatory reporting, performing the financial control function for the Group and testing the control framework, while delivering on cost and risk imperatives. This delivery will be required against the backdrop of significant industry and Group change, including the implementation of IFRS9, the creation of a new Holdco and the Group`s investment in new core systems.
  • Change - driving a culture of day to day improvement and change within FS, by ensuring this is firmly embedded across all levels of the team and leveraging the benefits of the Group`s investment in technology. Delivering further change benefits from planned investments in due course.
  • Key responsibilities of the Director of Finance Services include:

    • Develop a Finance Services` people agenda focused on optimising talent, learning opportunities and staff engagement. Ensure a strong performance culture within the unit.
    • Being an evangelist for change, ensuring FS teams identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies.
    • Ensuring that appropriate frameworks are in place to identify, manage and mitigate risks and ensure accountability for same
    • Deliver on agreed service level as agreed with stakeholders and customers
    • Delivering the cost of FS in line with agreed budget targets.

    Key accountabilities include:

    1. Accounting and Information Services:

    • All elements of General Ledger accounting (including SAP accounting)
    • Inter-company reconciliation and accounting
    • Cost Recording (incl. fixed asset & project accounting)
    • Reconciliation Monitoring & Control
    • Pension Accounting and Reporting
    • Credit Risk Reporting
    • Defined Sales, Operations, HR and Business reporting and MI
    • Working with the EDW team to maximise the benefits from EDW.

    2. Financial Control (for all business units in the Group)

    3. External Reporting including:

    • Group Consolidation
    • Group and Subsidiary Statutory Reporting
    • Regulatory reporting including FinRep.

    4. Other Regulatory Reporting including

    • Large Exposure Reporting
    • RPL
    • Ad hoc data requests

    5. Reporting Controls

    • The annual IFC program
    • The IFC regulatory rerun program.

    Essential Qualifications

    • A qualified accountant (10+ years PQE) with proven leadership experience in strategic planning and execution and wide exposure to leading financial practices

    Essential Skills & Experience

    • A proven track record in leading, developing and motivating large teams to ensure delivery against objectives and maximising team and individual performance / potential.
    • At least 10 years of business experience, ideally with 3+ years experience in a Shared Service environment at a senior level with a track record of sustained high performance through successive career advancements
    • Ability to demonstrate business transformation/ change leadership skills, capable of influencing and leading a range of stakeholders.Experienced in establishing and delivering a transformational agenda (i.e. major technology and/or process change) preferably in a Shared Services context
    • Proven track record in building relationships with strong credibility and interpersonal impact, positively influencing key stakeholders up to GEC/Executive level
    • Strategic thinker with excellent business acumen and the ability to understand and anticipate the needs of the business and the external market. A sound understanding of what is required to deliver successful operations management is also required.
    • Outstanding communication skills with a proven ability to influence both internally and externally at the highest levels, demonstrating emotional intelligence, resilience and independence.
    • A proven ability to a) interpret major business challenges in a strategic manner and b) critically analyse management information, regulation, policy & procedures, and apply commercial judgement with a forward thinking perspective
    • Strong resilience with the ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a focus on execution excellence
    • A comprehensive understanding of the changing external financial and regulatory landscape that may impact the business strategically
